A potential employer may schedule a physical at Bronston Clinics as a condition for an offer of employment. What happens during a pre-employment physical? It depends on the job requirements or employer policies, but these are standard guidelines.
Pre-Employment Physical
Our licensed practitioner will measure vital signs, including blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, and respiration during a pre-employment physical. They will also check height, weight, and reflexes, then assess overall appearance and look for signs of underlying conditions.
To assess overall health, we may ask these common questions:
- Medical history
- Medications
- Drug, alcohol, and tobacco use
- Immunizations
- Surgeries
- Allergies
- Cardiovascular health
- Respiratory health
- Musculoskeletal health
- Vision and hearing
- Behavioral health
Some jobs might require physical ability and stamina tests to assess strength, flexibility, and balance. Bloodwork or drug/alcohol testing may be necessary.
Employees can prepare for a pre-employment physical by getting enough sleep the night before, eating a healthy breakfast/meal, wearing comfortable clothes, and bringing a list of medications, plus any employer paperwork and an ID. People using hearing aids, glasses, or prosthetic devices should bring those, as well.
The appointment may take about half an hour, and results will be available to the employer in one-two days. Questions? Please call the Bronston Clinic at 608.781.2225.
Notes:
DOT physicals and certifications are specified for employees whose potential employers are regulated by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides guidelines for employees protected under the ADA to protect against discrimination.
