Those in the military endure a lot to keep our country safe. The demands of service put soldiers through an incredible amount of physical stress. Often, they do not seek medical attention until serious or chronic pain surfaces, which can end up making the matter worse in the long run.
In addition to the potential, long-term physical damage chronic back pain can cause, it may also result in painkiller prescriptions, which unfortunately is common amongst service members. According to the Global Health Center, 56 percent or military personnel and veterans used opioids for pain relief from 2001 to 2011. While these medications may provide immediate relief, they will not solve long-term issues and can be extremely addictive.
Chiropractic care is a much better and safer solution to treating back pain. Federal legislation in 2004 made access to chiropractic care a permanent medical benefit for active duty and veteran service men and women. Since the act was passed, chiropractic services have been available in veteran health centers across the country. In many cases, chiropractors can even be found on military bases.
Studies into chiropractic care for military personnel have yielded positive conclusions. A federal survey conducted in 2013 showed that active duty members between 18 and 35 years old who saw a chiropractor for back pain had significantly reduced pain than those who received standard care.
