It’s the New Year, and we’ve all promised ourselves we’ll eat better. Get started with Dr. Bronston’s guilt-free, Good-for-You Granola, packed with vital nutrients. It’s delicious, crunchy and especially yummy with yogurt and fruit for breakfast/lunch or just for snack time!

Make it at home to control the quality of ingredients and avoid preservatives. You’ll save some money on your grocery budget and maybe skip that drive-through, too.

Our granola has applesauce for good digestion and vitamin C, plus coconut for disease-fighting antioxidants. You’ll find heart-healthy oats, olive oil and nuts in this recipe. Flax and chia will provide a little protein boost plus omega-3 fatty acids to address inflammation and cholesterol. Maple syrup and honey are natural sweeteners high in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants; and cinnamon helps control blood sugar. Try Celtic salt for even more trace minerals. Use gluten-free oats if you or yours need to avoid gluten. After baking, package granola in individual snack bags to enjoy any time. What’s not to love!

Gluten Free Granola

Dr. Bronston’s Good-for-You Granola (Gluten-Free)

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (or apple-peach)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt (try Celtic)
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 cups rolled oats (try Bob’s Red Mill GF)
  • 1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 3 Tbsp. ground flax seeds
  • 2 Tbsp. chia seeds

Preheat oven to 325°. Line 15×10” baking pan with parchment. In a large bowl, combine sauce, syrup, honey, oil, vanilla, salt and spices. Stir in oats, nuts, coconut, and seeds. Spread onto a baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes, stir and bake 20 minutes more. Cool. Store in air-tight containers or baggies. Makes 4-5 cups.
